Should i should i not

Am now thinking of should i proceed with my industrial training...

Felt delighted when i first got a mail replied from this company from Singapore. Glad that i got such an oppportunity to work in such a big company. The plus point is that it is a biotechnology company based in Singapore which has branches in KL and the United States. And also it is something to do with what i am studying since ussually not everyone would get to work in fields related to what they have studied. So i thought i am lucky enough to have got it.

Why would i say so is partially because I have always had this tendency to work outside of Malaysia. I would like to venture in overseas.... well i just like it? like travelling further around the globe. So since this is my once in a blue moon opportunity, it's like a door opened for me to step in. I wouldnt want to let go this gateaway. I need this stepping stone. But a few friends around me are telling something else that pull me aback a while.

Things that they said:

1) Not worth it since they are treating us like "kuli" (coolie) because i was told by the company that i would be working for 14 weeks instead of 11 weeks which is required by my University. Yet they expect me to work overtime but most likely with no extra pay. (I thought since this is like the only gateaway for me to venture further, so to gain something, i must sacrifice something too. aint it true?)

2) What?!!!! So low only ar your pay?!! RM300 only. No accomodation, transport provided somemore. I rather find other jobs which pay higher and get experience if you just want working experiences. (But this is something to do with my studies worrrr. Like i say again, it's a door oepened for me, though it's sucky with the allowance and working time, i have to sacrifice for this time right to gain more in future)

3) No point wan for the experience you gain. Nothing you can learn during the internship training. Coz my sister worked even for her own aunty; worked overtime but didnt get extra pay and in the end learned nothing but to do things like washing test tubes, summarizing articles, etc. (To me it is not so much of what i would learn during the intern training, but for its reputation, to do something for my resume; at least i'd have had this working experience, doing my intern in a such a well built reputation company before, i supposed. Hope it'd help me somehow in future?? Well, be far sighted, not just looking at the surface only).

All in all, I think i know what i want roughly. But still.... should i bare with this?
Long working hour like shit with hell low pay allowance, 14 weeks instead of 11 weeks which caused me having hard time to readjust my schedule for my beloved cousie's wedding, lessen my time to be spending with ~B~.

After talking to my dad and ~B~, i felt even more for what my decision would be. But still, i wanna ask for more opinions outside... Hehe... Cannot isit now...

Dont be so stingy okay!!!!!

Anyone~~~~ would like to drop a few piece of minds of yours... XD

(P/S: This field is not what i really wish to do though but media industry or music would be my preference)

what's THE MAIN reason you go to singapore again??

gosh, people scared you a bit, then you takut alr? just go for it la ok. Just shut up and just go to singapore. I can guess who are the ones who's "scaring" you. Let me give you a clue, the name repeats twice. **runs away** hehe.

Think of this this way babe, many people could only dream of having this opportunity. So if you don't go, like what kumar will say, bodoh punya anjing. hehe no la... on the serious note, you should go. Financially don't bother so much la. I believe that things will fall into place for you. Just need to take first step and stop worrying k.

if you are not daring enough to step outside now, well, you could always apply in ipoh. no big deal. just 11 weeks. you can work in singapore in the future no problem. Depends on how adventurous you are.

still waiting for my reply from the company ok. sent in last friday only.lol.

haha, like what kenny said, what's THE MAIN reason???

screw the minuses for all the pluses you gonna get from taking the internship...come on, it's a freaking opportunity to work with a renowned international company (what's the name of the company and how famous is it, by the way?)and some more, you get to work in oversea, something i'm dying for..if you don't want it, give it to me then as i don't mind washing test tubes and all..XD

but, again, to copy people's opinion, you're still young and there's plenty of opportunities installed for you in future so even if you decided to skip this one, you won't miss a lot...so, whatever you're decided (i got pretty idea what it is), you have my support!

aiyaya...sai lou go for it..if not u will regret....actually experience doesn't mean u just learn something related to your skill but is also let you learn how you handle with people(communication skill)...Singapore wo and big company should have more wider span and deep diversity. Moreover, not easy to get this opportunity as you know la....

I also heard before that internship doesn't give u learn a lot or pay very little but still some are like this ka la sometimes...you think work as executive meh and earn 2000 salary just for internship in a month?!r u kiddding?!

The matter is do you dare go this hardship a not?because as I know that not easy to walk jer...as i know...anyway, sai lou, I also just like what seng aik told that no matter you choose what i also support you.

i think you should go for it.

Reasons? simple.
i) salary. RM300 is better than none, plus it's only internship, what do you expect? we are lucky because our family these days could support us financially. Or better still, use our own pocket money.

2)Experience. Wash test tube? summarize report? so what? It's the experience that counts, not only academic wise. Think about the types of working environment, the types of people you might meet, types of situations you might encounter. Street smart is as important as book smart, right? Plus, you said it's big company, so it might help you in your resume later.

quote from dunno who: the biggest mistake you can make is to be continually fearing you will make one..

hope it helps, hehe

hmmm... if i were in ur position i'll be in dilemma too. i have a fren who worked in spore during the previous 3 mnths break and heck he said he worked worst than a kuli. but yet, like u said, it's for experience and all.. another u factor shud consider is the cost of living there. the pay u get is definitely not enough for your expenses and all. but once again, the experience.

and oh, the hassle. i wanted to apply for penang initially but then i thought searching for a place to rent, getting to work and all.. u know, need to get there to find for rooms etc. will be too much hassle for just a 3 mnths job (for me la..)

i'm not saying u shudn't accept the offer tho... but merely stating some points u shud consider. lol.

ok... yikara...

14months is around 3months time.

Talk about ~B~ 1st... at KL right? Since you wont be seeing each other even when you are in Kampar, that make no diff for you to come Singapore. You still can talk through phone... 3months only... sponsor u phone card for this 3mths lo?... wont be very much...

Your future, with this 3months experience, you will be recognised to the whole world, as you worked in the big company in Singapore. Thats the main point...

3months only, dont look at your pay. Even we work full time here, wont be able to recover our cost in the first 3months...

Experience... at least you experience it in the life time.. many ppl wont have the chance... like me... how much I hope to study in Uni... but i never have the chance.. I gotto fight for the future... no time and no money for me to use in Uni... so.. cherish the chances you have...

talk to me on msn... LOL

I think you should go there because we cant get such opportunity all the time plus some ppl even didnt get their pay when they have their industrial training..at least you get rm300 per month..father can sponsor some ma..

beggars can't be choosers =)

well i don really know anything bout this, but i think u should go for it.
We're still in recession, and i think some will not get selected for industrial training.
Or some i heard has to work in zoo or some shitty place.
3 months, its not a lifetime.
Secure a spot, its better than nothing.
Susah dahulu, senang kemudian. Cewah~~

lol. 3 months pass really fast.
Its still up to u.
No harm trying it.

Just go for it.
Money's not everything.
It's the experience that is valuable.
What you say is true, not alot of people actually have the chance to go into the field of their studies, especially our field of biotech and biomed.
If I was offered a chance like this I'll grab it.

Don't let it slip by ur hand.

Remember, A ship in the harbor is safe---BUT that is not what ships are for.

Go for it.
All the best and gambateh=)

If something on my list offer me, I'll definitely go...the company is in your list right…so go for it…don’t hesitate…chances like this don’t happen very often…is either now or never…

how many life times do you have industrial training, tell me?...so get my point?...everyone knows industrial training is nothing about earning…is all about learning…even you are working here and not Singapore, there isn’t much of a difference…you still get low pay or worse still nothing at all…

okay blame me if I have a bad mouth…can you assure after graduate you can enter big companies like Singapore just for try out?…is like so hard to get in there and work k…in other words…industrial training allow you to experience and know what you want in future…

even if you regret after going, at least you learn from it…know better about everything there…peoples, environment, etc etc…furthermore just think about nice testimonial you’ll get to show others when applying jobs in the future…

lastly be thankful you got replies…I am still in waiting list ok…lol…

So let's see...

Well, if you want to go to Singapore and work, just for experience, I would say go for it! If it's for sight seeing and broadening your horizon, I would say, screw it, you're wasting your time. You can explore Singapore anytime, since it;s just right next to Malaysia! But the cost of living in Singapore is not cheap, and lets be frank, Rm300 is barely enough to help you survive, unless you do have relatives or who so ever that can let you stay at their place for free.

I know people will tell you, it's one in a lifetime experience! But lets be serious here, reality sucks. If you don't look at the facts, it's just not gonna help. What i am trying to say is... If your family or yourself can support this venture, then by all means, follow what you wanna do!

Ohh just saw your last comment... What was your decision!?

Hey...I would advise you to go for it thought but since you've made your decision ady I know that you'll take the job...So i'll wish you all the best for your Industrial Training. It's just for 3 months so bear with it. Mine is for 6 months and will have the same situation as you(low pay and long working hours)...but remember the working experience and soft skills that you will learn...at least you'll know how your life would be after your studies..hehe...

P.S. Who is the B? Never tell me some more. So sad...
